Breif History of Timaru Pistol Club

Timaru Pistol Club has moved to a new ranges ! 2023

Incorporated 19th September 1974 The Timaru Pistol Club Incorporated celebrated its 50th anniversary recently.  After shooting at a few locations in the early days the Club established the Ranges at South St Timaru about 48 years ago. The South St facilities have been built up over the years to provide a great shooting facility within the City boundary.

 

However over the past 10 years the proximity to the sea has become a problem. Originally, we had our boundary wall, 3m macrocarpa hedge, a road, 8m of ground and a drop to the beach.  See an image from 2019. The Red Line shows the sea as at 2024. Image on right is from 2014.

So the club as a whole knew we were going to have to relocate to somewhere else. The obvious choice was the Seadown Shooting Complex at Aorangi Rd Timaru. They had established 4 Ranges and had work and planning well under way for another 7 ranges on site. The plan was laid Aug 2019 to join the Seadown Shooting complex when we had to vacate the South St facilities.  

So in October 2023 Timaru Pistol Club joined the Seadown Shooting Complex as a member Club. Using ranges at both South St Timaru and the Seadown Range at Aorangi Rd. The Club closed the South St Ranges December 2014.

The club is delighted with the new Range. More facilities are coming on line every month. So there are 11 Ranges at Seadown Shooting Complex, all but one are certified for Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun. We have established 2 * 25m ISSF ranges. There are also 30m 35m and 50m pistol ranges. Rifles can be used on all ranges and there are 2 * 100m ranges for Rifle.
