What are the absolute must-know safety rules for anyone visiting or shooting at the Timaru Pistol Club?
You don’t need any prior experience to get into pistol shooting – just an interest and a willingness to learn! Attend an introductory session – Timaru Pistol Club allows visitors to come and experience pistol shooting under strict supervision, using club-owned firearms. You can attend a maximum of three introductory sessions before you must become a probationary member by joining the club.

Are there any specific club rules or etiquette that members or visitors should definitely be aware of?
Join as a probationary member – This is required before moving forward. As a probationary member, you’ll begin your training under club supervision. At this stage, you do not need a firearms licence to join a club—you can shoot under direct supervision using club firearms.

Why are these safety and club rules so important?
To progress in pistol shooting, you’ll need to obtain a New Zealand Firearms Licence and later a pistol endorsement. This process ensures all shooters meet strict safety and legal standards.
